How to Measure Your Head Circumference for a Hat or Cap?

Choosing the right hat, cap, or flat cap size is essential for comfort and proper fit. Measuring your head circumference correctly helps prevent pressure, headaches, and issues with keeping your headwear securely in place.

Step-by-Step Guide to Measuring Your Head Circumference

1. Prepare a Measuring Tape

For the most accurate measurement, use a flexible tailor’s measuring tape. If you do not have one, use a piece of string or ribbon and then measure its length with a ruler.

2. Position the Measuring Tape Correctly

Wrap the tape around your head:

  • approximately 2 cm (0.8 inches) above your eyebrows,
  • approximately 1 cm (0.4 inches) above your ears.

This is the natural position where a hat or cap rests on your head.

3. Read the Measurement

The tape should fit snugly around your head but should not be tight or uncomfortable.

✅ Record your measurement to the nearest 0.5 cm (¼ inch).

4. Choose the Right Size

Le Szapo Tip: If your measurement falls between two sizes, we always recommend choosing the larger size.

Why?

  • A hat that is too tight may cause discomfort and headaches.
  • A slightly larger hat can easily be adjusted using sizing strips.

What If the Hat Feels Too Loose?

There is no need to give up on your favorite model.

Le Szapo offers cork sizing strips that can be placed under the sweatband (the inner band of the hat) to reduce its circumference.

Benefits of Cork Sizing Strips

✓ Quick and easy size adjustment

✓ Invisible once installed

✓ Reduce the hat size by approximately 0.5–1 cm

✓ Improve overall fit and comfort

Thanks to these sizing strips, your hat will sit securely and comfortably on your head.
