How to take care of your hat?

How to Care for Your Panama Hat?

A Panama hat is a unique handcrafted product, woven from the natural fibers of the Toquilla palm. With proper care, it will retain its beauty, comfort, and durability for many years.

1. Handle the hat by the brim

Always pick up and remove your Panama hat by holding the brim, not the crown. Frequent or excessive pressure on the crown may cause it to lose its shape or crack.

2. Restore its flexibility

If your Panama hat becomes stiff or less flexible, leave it in the bathroom after a hot shower or bath. The natural fibers will absorb moisture from the air, making the hat soft and flexible again.

3. Clean the sweatband

The inner sweatband collects the most dirt. Refresh it from time to time using a soft, slightly damp cloth with a small amount of mild natural soap. Allow it to dry completely before wearing the hat again.

4. Clean the outer surface

Remove dust and light dirt with a soft brush or a damp cloth and mild natural soap. Avoid scrubbing or using harsh cleaning products, as they may damage the natural fibers.

5. Loose fibers

Occasionally, you may notice small loose fibers. This is a natural characteristic of a handwoven Panama hat. Do not pull them out—simply trim them carefully with a pair of small scissors.

6. If your hat gets wet

If the hat becomes wet, place it on a flat, dry surface and allow it to air dry naturally. Do not use a hair dryer, radiator, or direct sunlight, as excessive heat may damage or deform the fibers.

7. Travel and storage

When traveling, the safest way to transport your Panama hat is in a dedicated hat box. If this is not possible, wearing it is the best option. Store the hat in a dry place, away from heat sources and prolonged direct sunlight.
